I've got a 72' that has the same decor on the right side:

Left side not bad:

The guy I got it from many years ago said the guy he got it from kept it in a wall rack next to swamp cooler. He'd wipe the exposed side down and forgot the other side. Anyhoo I never did anything to it except oil it down well to stop the rust and pitting which this did. I gave it to my son 11 years ago on his 18th birthday and I probably had it 15 years prior to that. The rust and pitting has not progressed.
Interestingly ya can't hit the ground pointed down with 150 grain ammo with this rifle but 170s all day in a small paper plate at a 150 yards. It's seen a lot of miles horseback and a lot more in a truck as a ranch gun.
