AR-15 build to mimic Sig cross

    Hey Calguns,

Wondering if anyone has built a bolt action AR-15?

I have an AR15 lower that I want to turn into a bolt action hunting gun and I'm considering the 6.5 grendel round but open to other options.

Any ideas other than the Uintah precision products?

I am also open to getting an AR-10 lower as that could open up larger hunting rounds.

Mayhaps tossin' the words "manually-operated" into your thread title would yield additional looky-sees and perhaps a greater quantity of pertinent info?

yeehaw sounds like an interesting project where one could learn to run the gun like a rapide.

A side charging upper could be used to make a straight pull bolt gun.

The brits have a large market for manual ARs, since semiauto ARs are verboten. Google may help with ideas.

Troy has a couple options: ( non std lowers, though )

I have a PAR...and one of these days I’ll get around to shooting it!

Kali-key bolt system would be a viable option.

Kali key and Lantac Raven kind of, but they are still basically semi auto ARs, just with the gas system disabled. You're basically pulling the bolt carrier group back manually instead of any gas helping you with that operation.

Uintah's upper receiver is an actual bolt-action system wit a single piece bolt assembly like a true bolt action rifle's bolt assembly, rather than just an AR-15 bolt and bolt carrier group with modifications. Uintah upper also uses a tri-lug setup, which means you need to use one of their barrel extensions, as their bolt assembly/upper receiver won't work with just any standard AR-15 barrel equipped with an AR-15's barrel extension.

So if you just mean "manual bolt operation" then yes there are some options out there. But if you mean a true traditional "bolt action" a la Remington 700 and the like, then no, only Uintah does it like Uintah at this time. I do like the Uintah upper conceptually, but for the price of their upper you can buy an entire bolt action rifle.

By the way, the Uintah upper requires a buffer tube. I asked Uintah, their bolt protrudes into the buffer tube, so you can't use a picatinny adapter and slap on a skeletonized stock like a Sig Sauer Cross.
