There are dozens and dozens of choices out there, tough to zero in on what you are looking for. I have only had Leupold scopes myself and highly recommend them but there are many, many reputable scope manufacturers and models to choose from.

You can go over to Midway, Cabela's or many other big box stores and view their selections on-line.

*Envy* I want one of those 308 LRs in the worst way, but haven't quite rationalized myself into making the purchase.
I picked up a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x BDC at deep discount a year ago in anticipation of pairing it with the LR. One of these days . . .

For that price range I like the Leupold vx freedom 3-9, useful range without going too high on the top end. I'm not a super long range guy though. What is your intended use?

I've been looking at rescoping my Savage 99 in 300 Savage(very similar to 308; 308 is based on this cartridge). The 3-9x on it is large for a lever gun. I agree with sentiment posted by others in old threads that a lever gun shouldn't have a big scope on it.

I've been eyeing something like the Leupold 1.5-4 compact scope.

My pick as well. I have the 2x7 on the Golden Boy. The 3x9 Freedom comes in a smaller, lighter 33 mm at 12 oz. It also has a front parallax turret, rare for Leupold.

I have 2 of those scopes, paid $299 last year, now $349 due to inflation from quantitative easing.

On my lever .308, a Savage 99F, I put a period correct Tasco Omni Vision 2.5X7X32. Works great still. PAX

The Scout scope is for pistols . . .. Leupold 3x9 or 4x12 CAN NOT GO WRONG.

I changed scope and rings on the mid 1950's Savage 99 I picked up on some years ago. Held on to everything since it was period correct; Weaver K4...

I put a 3-9x40 on it, but would like to change to the Leupold 1.5-4x20; nice and compact.

Take look at Euro Optic sale prices on Nikon Prostaff 3 and 5 scopes. Good prices !

I have the Leupold 1.5-4 on a marocchi 612 in 30-06/12 gauge and also like that scope quite a bit, but it's a bit more finicky. If you're going for very light, and are not that interested in magnification, it's also a very reasonable choice.

I put this Burris on my .308 Long Ranger.

Just got back from shooting it in the Mojave.
Getting close to a load for it.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Cool so it sounds like the leupold 3x9 is the overall right choice with the Henry rings. Thanks gang you guys rock!

What golfish said. Those Burris 3x9 with Ballistic Plex are hard to beat. He was getting some good groups from his Henry LR .308 today.
