How to make an AK more accurate?

All jokes aside, any suggestions on how to make an AK more accurate? So far i've added a recoil buffer and a J-Comp. Anything else?

Sights? If so, which one, any experience?

By accurate do you mean "shoot smaller groups"? Are you interested in slow fire or rapid fire? Have you found ammunition your rifle likes?

How big are your groups and how small do you want them to be?

I gave up on the design and built a very nice, very accurate AR-47. It outshoots some of my AR-15's. 1~2 moa with once cheap Golden Tiger ammo.

        After market trigger?

You may need a bolt action to make x39 shoot moa.

Some years back I played with one. Tried Tech-Sights and a scope. Both were better than standard AK or SKS sights.

The Tech-Sight had two advantages over the standard sights. One is the ease of using the aperture sight. The other is a longer sight radius; the sight radius is really short on the AK and SKS rifles.

Using better ammo helped. Switching to a soft point hunting ammo definitely improved the accuracy as compared to plain ball ammo(this was pre-lead ban). There are so many ammo manufacturers with so much variability in components it is challenging to get accurate ball ammo.

Handloads would help, if you can find a quality bullet that works for you.

Beyond that, the barrels are short, and not known for accuracy. A longer, higher quality barrel would help.

            1) START with an Arsenal, or pre-ban Polytech
            2) Throw OUTRAGEOUS amounts of money at it, in the form of tiny parts & pieces, made by companies that make NOTHING else.
            3) Get it down to 3" groups at 50' on wind-less days
            4) Trade for a mid-tier AR

                Practice, practice then practice more?

Well, because this question is in the manually operated firearms section.....

To make an AK more accurate, convert it into a CZ-527 in the same caliber.

Yea, I just noticed I was in the wrong sections after I came back to check on replies.

Moderator - can you move this to the semi auto section?

Block off the gas port so that there is no gas pressure pushing against the bolt carrier.
Vertical stringing will be dramatically reduced.

Set your AK aside and spend your $ on something else because they were designed for "battlefield accuracy". Even with custom handloads tuned to your rifle, you'd be lucky to get 3 MOA or better accuracy on a good day out of an AK.

If you're looking for accuracy out of 7.62x39 go with a good bolt action with custom handloads.
