    I don't know if Kendog on this forum does this kind of work but it the old days they would grind the ears off of the rear sight and fill in the hole then add a couple weaver bases and call it good.
    They would also make it cock on opening.
    I have pictures but this website isn't working right now so they won't post.

          A follow up!

          Was having a nostalgic moment and was digging through a box of old family photos. Danged if I didn't find a photo of the rifle and scope!



          I'm guessing here but that looks to be a home built custom optic - gramps was a handy fellow!

              Nice pic. The scope looks to be a 2.5x in a 7/8" tube with a custom sleeve to make it fit a 1" ring.

                OP, that is one of the nicer jobs of sporterizing a Model 1917 that I have seen. My grandfather gave me his. They are ugly rifles but they are accurate and they won't let you down.
