    Metal in the sear might have lost its heat treatment and gone soft.

        What does the stock look like? I would imagine it would scorch if it got that hot.

          If the metal got hot enough to soften your sear then all your springs would be gone. The springs will lose their temper before any other parts will be affected.

            And the stock would likely be nothing but ashes.

            Most likely gummy crud in the trigger group. Stopping the sear from properly engaging the cocking piece on the bolt.
