New Bolt Action in .223

I started this a few years ago. Got the barrel done and the bolt head (sourced from the UK, and has integral extractor and ejector) fitted some time back (so long ago in fact I cant remember who from this forum helped me and did the gunsmithing).

With the COVID stay at home stuff I had to work form my basement, wherein sat a whole bunch of unfinished gun related projects, and eventually I got to this one. Fitting a .223 magazine which fed reliably and sat in the correct position was a tough job but it is now complete. It feeds, fired extracts and ejects and is now ready for range testing to see if its accurate, and if it is, whether it stays accurate consistently.

Before anyone says it, I'm aware that I've spent probably $1000 dollars on what might be as accurate as a $300 rifle and has a $15 secondhand scope on it, but I like it. If however, anyone has any ideas for a scope that looks vintage but isn't just a fixed 2.5x with cross hair I'm listening

Wow, that’s something you don’t see everyday! So wait, is the magazine nestled inside the other magazine to make it work? Did you use an AR mag for the .223 or something different?

Either way, pretty nifty!

I tried various magazines (Ruger, CZ, AR) and all failed until I found a 4 round mag for a savage A340 rifle which fitted inside nicely. I had to use shims and epoxy to get it to stay and set in place.

This is the magazine. Set in epoxy. I made a feed ramp for the .223 round from a No.4 extractor.

Nice. I would leave the scope alone. 2.5 is a great coyote calling optic magnification. It also looks appropriate on that rifle. You would be surprised how accurate you can be at 200 yards and in(that's the .223 humane kill range on most animals) Also most WW2 era snipers used scopes with mostly low magnifications like 2.5, 3 or 4 power.
