    Springfield 1903

I am looking at some 1903's, and am about to buy one. Question: Will the 1903 handle steel cased ammo for general shooting at the range?

You should be fine as long as it is not an early one that had action hardening issues. Get a fairly high numbered one, or all 03-A3s are okay.

Here is a good article on the subject -

There is a lot of internet chatter about whether or not it is safe to shoot a 'low number' Springfield M1903 bolt-action rifle. Concerns about the guns began at the peak of their production when their reliability truly was a matter of life or death for the soldiers fielding these arms.

Around here steel cased ammo is not allowed at the range.

Most ranges could care less about steel cased ammo...
Steel cored is frowned upon however.

Both my 1903A3 and 1903 sporterized will eat and fire just fine the Wolf brand steel cased .30-06 springfield ammunition.

Why would a range not allow steel cased ammo? Never heard of that before.
