    7mm Magnum?

What's been owners experience wrt long range shooting?

    Belted case a problem?

How about long bullets? Does it handle 180's okay?

I like it. Plenty of speed/energy.

It's not a .338 Lapua or BMG for extreme long range but it works for the all the ranges I shoot .308.

For just about any hunting in North America, this is what I would take.

Belted Case is not a problem just more expensive than .308.

I shoot 139-162 grains. I have no need for more bullet weight.

Are you just hitting targets or game?
7mm is a great hunting rond but if you are looking to long range, the 6.5 PRC is a little better if you hand load your ammo. ANd that is just from a cost perspective.
For hunting you will need max energy. For steel is totally different.

Just targets. That's why I want to use 180's.

6.5PRC vs 6.5-284? 6.5-284 is an established round with match credentials over the years, and is a nice hunting round.

Got my Wyoming deer last year using one. Looking to build my own.

If it just targets, you will be way ahead if you go with a non belted cartridge if you are reloading yourself. If you do end up with the 7mm and you reload, invest in the Larry Willis collet die. It is pretty awesome and will solve the issues associated with belted magnums. I use it for reloading my 300 win mags and 7mm.

Our patented resizing die can reload Winchester, Remington and Weatherby belted magnums up to 20 times, instead of just 2 or 3 times and the top of the die is a chamber width gauge.

I prefer my .300 mags of Wthby or Win flavor. I just necksize so they seat on the shoulder. If I didn't already have them, loads developed and confidence in them, I would probably go with one of the Nosler cartridges. This is for hunting. I do get 3/4 MOA accuracy from mine, though. I could probably do a bit better with more load development, etc but they are a bit much from the bench. For targets, I would go with one of the 6.5 cartridges as dialing up the range is not a problem off a bench with no rush and the lesser recoil would make it more fun.

I think I am going to hit the Lions Club in Lucerne tomorrow to test my new rifle build.

While a well accomplished hunting round, it has a reputation for short barrel life.

Ugh, I have to resize the belt too? I'm thinking this is too much hassle and will give it a pass.

I appreciate all the "don't get that, get this instead" posts, but this is related to my other post where I found a Remington Long Range on sale for a screaming price($540). I can only buy what's on sale, and in this case it's a 7mm Magnum.

It isn't that big of a deal, just another step and tool. You'll love it and since it is on sale, it is even better. I have a 700 Long Range 3oo Win Mag.

7mm rem mag is a very flat shooter and held many records back in the day.

I just use a Lee collet die and necksize my brass. I get very good accuracy that way and pretty good case life. No messing with the belt on magnum rounds.

If you don't like the belts, look at 7 or 300 short mag for an expensive hole puncher.
