    Saw Something Yesterday

I saw something yesterday that really bolstered my position on Marlin Firearms.

Went to the Local Tru Value Hardware store. They have a nice gun department.

The owner is a friend and I have bought quite a few guns from him.

New on the rack was a Marlin Levergun with a Laminated stock and Blued metal. I originally thought it was a .30-30? I took it down and started looking it over.

I was blown away! The wood to metal fit on this gun was perfect over the entire gun! There was barely a visible crack between the stock and the Action Tang, both top and bottom.

The metal finish was perfect over the entire gun! The grain of the surface finish on the receiver all went the same way on both sides and was totally consistent. The Bluing was a very deep blue and perfect over the entire gun.

The gun has a Brown Laminate stock and a Big Loop Lever which had all the edges broke and radiused..

    Then I realized it wasn't a .30-30 it was a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 $825!

This was an 18" Short Rifle Guide Gun with Sling Swivel Studs mounted and the only thing I'd add to it would be a Skinner Rear Sight and a Sling.

This was a nice gun! So much for the Nay Sayers!

You should then go purchase it right now. If it is a unicorn, you can easily recoup your investment. If it turns out to be common, save it for a project.
    Thank you for the info.

Was this a shop or was it a museum?

I have purchased several new Marlins and they are all excellent.

My new 1894C with a scope shoots an honest 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo and my reloads. And I'm a crappy shot.

My new 1894C Dark performs brilliantly with the XS sights and now a red dot.

I am just starting the load work up on my 1894CB in 45 Colt but it too is a keeper.

          Good to hear.

Modern CNC machining and metal finishing process controls is making it easier to produce precision parts and result in consistent quality.

The wood on this gun was just brown Laminate but the fit was so close it really struck me. There wasn't a gap anywhere on the butt stock to receiver fit that was any larger than a few thousandths The fore end fit around the barrel was a little looser but that is to be expected as the fore end on Marlins Rifles and Short Rifles needs to have some play in it or else it adversely affects the accuracy.

If I didn't already have a 1895 CB .45-70 I would definitely pick this one up.

I heard the Camarillo Gun Store is back open so we'll go out there and see what they have got. Incidentally for those of you who live in the SFV, Northern LA, and Ventura Counties, the Camarillo Gun Store has more guns, accessories and reloading supplies than anyplace I have seen.

The guy who owns the place is cool and easy to deal with, and will order anything you want and probably already has many things in stock that you didn't even know you needed !!!

I was told NOT to wear a Mask when entering the place as they will shoot Looters!

Oh, cmon man, those are two COMPLETELY different guns, you need both of them - one for buffalos and one for dinosaurs.
