6mm ARC too slow for PRS?

There was a little sarcasm there as recently they have released new cartridges like apple releasing new iPhones. Each “better” than the last.

They’re trying to sell lots of 6 and 6.5 bullets, and establish themselves as the best 6/6.5 bullet maker out there. What better way to do that than release a new better cartridge every few years?

How do you compete with federal, who has the best 30 cal bullets out there? Make a new better cartridge.

I’m not saying it won’t be a good cartridge, but next year there will be another “better” cartridge that will become the next one round that does everything.

Right, and I explained how stupid that sarcasm was because it's not Hornady driving this cartridge, it's the military. Military cartridges always seem to be SAAMI specified, so someone was needed to do that. Hornady were the guys. It's not for a stupid reason like wanting to sell bullets. The 6mm Creedmoor already does that.

Do people only buy bullets one time? I think this is a pretty lame argument to make.

How much money do you think Hornady has invested in 6mm ARC R&D? And how long do you think it will take them to make their investment back selling a boutique cartridge that barely any guns can currently shoot - vs - say making 556 or 9mm that 10s of millions of guns can currently shoot.

If you spend a lot of time on the Hide or on PRS forums you might think there is a large population of gun owners jumping from cartridge to cartridge, but that couldn't' be further from the truth.

Developing a new cartridge and cornering the market for a year isn't a sustainable business model.

If I wanted to shoot MOA at 1000y out of one of my AR15 lowers what do you suggest?

Let me rephrase that so others will understand. If wanted a sub MOA AR15 pattern rifle that was capable of 1000y, what caliber would you suggest.

Edit 2: I already have a couple 6.5 cmoor bolt guns with heavy 24" barrels.

Shoot a high BC 6mm bullet when there is no wind.
243WSSM would be a good choice.
