I just posted a bit of info on how to verify your PLRF. If you're a hunter, you might find that you get better results if you learn the shape of your beam and where it is in your PLRF's reticle. Anyway, this is just part of a multipart series I'm posting to help shooters who signed up for our UKD Team Match. BTW it is sold out, so this is a way to give back, I'm not promoting anything. Because our match was sold out 10 months in advance (waiting list available), we feel we should offer a spin up series of topics on how to prepare best for our UKD Field Match, what to expect, tips, and tricks, and stage samples. Many of the techniques we will discuss will also have an application for hunting. The intent is to help shooters better prepare and develop. The topics will alternate back and forth over the next several months, between stage examples and tips, with the topics for tips covering field tripod use, testing your PLRFs beam, team dope cards & arm boards, to what to carry.

These are not your typical reviews, or what brand or piece of gear is best, posts; those are all over Youtube and the internet. This is focused more on best practices for field use.

Over-all, I found those tips-n-tricks really great. The one tip that really got me to say "OK, yes" was the target partially obscured by the hill. Instead of aiming at the head, you aimed for where the silhouette would be:

Thanks, That was basicly covering far side loops, I be adding something on Loophole shooting shortly. I am spacing these out so they all build on each other.

Special thanks to Prime Ammo and LeopoldSeeing the two young ladies, Kylie and Natalie, have such composure during their first match, inspired me to share how I felt, re-living what it literally "feels" like to be new to a game. More importantly, to share an opportunity to get the lay-of-the-land and practice some tripod shooting. During "most" matches, we have two divisions, Open, shot off barricades, or other twisted positions without tripod aid of any kind and a new shooter/hunter division shoot all prone. In the prone division, you have the choice of trying obstacles, dabbing your toes into the much more difficult positional division. This is a creative way to experience and grow into positional shooting, the caveat is that you must still submit your scores in the prone division, so it is a distinct score handicap.

We are going to allow shooters to practice during some of the regular matches, for the UKD Team Match using their tripods, along the same line as the rules for the prone division. Please note that there will be additional safety restrictions, so you'll need to check in with @Swoodhouse19 on the Hide before you plan to use your tripod.

If you are shooting the UKD Team Match, interested in shooting a UKD Team Match in the future, or even interested in your first match, you should come out and practice. If you have a daughter or son, life partner or friend, Avenal is a great place to bring them to shoot. If you plan to practice on a tripod, register as you would in Practiscore but also contact @Swoodhouse19 on the Hide and double check the availability.
