Rebarrel tikka?

Have a great shooting tikka in 243, but it's a pencil barrel, and I want heavy bbl for long range strings, do you guys think it's worth rebarrel, or just buy new rifle? Just want some outside opinions, seems rebarrel cost as much as new, or close to it, thanx for Input

if it's really that close in price i guess i'd try to sell the pencil barrel rifle and purchase a new model.

Do you like everything else about the Tikka? If so, rebarrel it. That way you can spend as much or as little as you want for the new barrel. However - will you need a new stock as well or will you modify the existing stock to the new barrel contour? If the stock needs replaced, you may as well buy a new rifle if cost is the deciding factor as the stock may increase the cost beyond that of a new rifle.

A new barrel let's you go to a different twist rate so you can shoot the heavy bullets and copper bullets without issues.

I've already restocked it with a Boyd's varminter, I love the action on the tikka, so smooth, I got a hvy barrel contour on stock when I bought it, any ideas on barrel switch price or best barrel mfg? Also Lynnjr, I was thinking of 1 in 9 or 1 in 8, your thoughts

If you have a heavy barrel put on it, it will be a much better barrel than what comes on an ordinary new rifle. It might look the same, but it won't be hand lapped, or as dimensionally accurate.

This guy likes Preferred Barrel Blanks and has probably built up as much as you can on his Tikka. He's shot it at 2200 yards. Another thing to think about is your chambering because you can make it almost whatever you want if you put a new barrel on it.

I’m in the same boat, have a 243 Tikka and have been thinking about rebarreling it. Came across a deal on another forum for a stainless Tikka 6.5 CM barrel 24” CTR contour and has about 800 rounds through it for $125. Already have a KRG bravo stock gonna make a long range gun out of it.

you'd be luck to get $100 for a new Factory tikka barrel

factory 6.5 cm barrel should last about 2500-3000 rounds

I have a Tikka in .243 that I'd planned on using for coyotes. May start using it for 300 yard matches (I am NOT a serious competitor).

How far have you shot yours and what were the results like?
