I've got one on my Marlin 935 (bolt action .22). Too uncomfortable - and possibly puny - for an AR or heavier battle rifle.

Mine is more comfortable than a plain nylon strap. Less comfortable than anything padded.

My buddy made me mine. I like it quite a bit, but it's a bit rough for a lot of carrying.

Get a padded carry strap.
