I’m not a rifle guru, so hopefully other members will chime in.

I have a R700 and one of the pluses was the aftermarket support, a lot of options.

Do you plan to customize it? Rem700 because of extensive aftermarket.

If you're leaving it basically stock, it's more personal preference, ergonomics etc.

I have both a 243 model 70 pre 64 and a 700 in 22.250 both have very nice triggers and are extremely accurate.
The main deference is the controlled feed on the 70 not that I've had any issues with the 700.

Do you need CRF and 3 position safety that was on the older model 70s? If so it is Winchester, otherwise personal preference.

If you already have a FN Mauser in 30-06 you plan on rebarreling why not put a 270 barrel on it?

I’ve thought of that, but felt that 9.3 Mauser would be more suitable/traditional in a Mauser action.

I own both. For new rifles, my new go to is a Tikka T-3X. I have one in 270 Win. It's not picky about ammo and it hits where I point it. It is my favorite rifle.

There's a good amount of after market parts for them.

to do to a hunting only rifle, if in fact that's what you want.

Just want a decent 270 just seems to be alot out there in the used market in the $500 range.

Just throwing an idea out there; I have thought for a while one of the Remington 76xx pumps would be nice in 270. Haven't actually shot one; only handled at local gun show.

I also have a T3 in .270. Got it used for $450. It is super accurate. Cant go wrong with a Tikka. Kicks like a mule but not as bad as the T3 in .3006 I used to have. That recoil was brutal.

If its between a 700 or a post 64, go with the 700 no question. Only 70 worth having is a pre 64 for that smooth action. The post 64 action is what Winchester did to compete with the cheaper push feed action of the 700. IMO, Remington does the push feed better in the 700.
