    .500 S&W Lever Action?

Does anyone know of any lever actions aside from Big Horn Armory? I finally got my hands on one, and just did not see why it was 3x the price of a Marlin. Hard to justify the cost at that point. Anyone else know of other options on the market? I read an old thread a while back there was something from Wild West Guns, but that seems to have fizzled out.

Rossi is supposed to make 454 Casull rifles. Not the same as a 460/500 but then again nothing is.

Yes, they're 4-5`of them listed today on GB.

Rossi also had a small run of Ruger 480 lever guns. Every once I'm a while you'll see one for sale on GB.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

From an actual field perspective, IMO it would make sense to procure the Rossi in .454, and make whatever practical mods you desired (sights, sling, etc.), and ending up with a weapon that could use readily available .45 Colt if desired, and have a plethora of sidearms to choose from as a paired accessory. The actual practical difference on game animals between the .500 & .454 loadings, at the relatively close ranges that pistol-caliber lever actions are best suited for, is very small at best. I wouldn't think that given good bullet placement, the .500 would be so much better as to justify the high co$t, but if that is what you want, it's your $$.
If one is really concerned with "stopping power" (a very subjective topic) from a lever action, a true rifle cartridge IMO is the obvious choice, that being either the .30-06, 45-70, or something similar.

An easily-available Rossi in .480 Ruger would be a problem for my wallet, that’s for sure.

Otherwise, I’ll agree with splithoof and be glad that I already have a mild-shooting (trapdoor loads) 400-grain .45-70 or same loaded a little faster.

Thank you all for the replies. The reasoning behind the specific caliber is because I have a .500 mag revolver, and all the loading components already. I wanted a lever gun to spice things up a bit, but, if I'm limited to the BHA, then I'll just keep looking. Thanks for the comments anyways.

In that case, discussion with a qualified gunsmith who specializes in lever actions might open the door for a conversion of an existing model. That however could be expensive, but in the end you would end up with a really nice rifle built to your own specs. I'm no expert on lever rifles, however others here might steer you in the best direction.

Wondering why Rossi doesn't chamber that in the .475 Linebaugh cartridge; with it you could shoot both calibers.......is the .475 too long in OAL for the platform? What am I missing here?

                      splithoof I have no idea.

Red-O may not post often but he posts well. Those guys at SSK sure do offer some interesting firearms and conversions!

I save it for the good threads

And I'm interested in that 45-70 Whisper.

                          I dream of...

...I really wish that these were on the market.

Ruger should introduce an updated IMI Timberwolf. It would fill a gap in their product line ( no levers at present, but a pump pistol caliber would play in the same product space ) and it would make me super happy!

Not a lever, but my pops has a H&R handi-rifle in 500 that's a fun tack driving thumper, bit cheaper than the big horn too
