    selling barreled action online

    Hello,

Does anyone have experience selling a barreled action online and ship it out to buyer's FFL, especially shipping out of CA?
I am wondering what's the recommanded procedure to do this no face-to-face transaction.

    Thanks!

Collect money, get receiving FFL info, ship out via UPS or FedEx or similar. Easy!

Listen to the guy with the 108 "trader" history -

Remember, it's the BUYER'S responsibility to work out details with his receiving FFL, not yours. Get the FFL address in writing, take photos of the item and the shipping label, pack it super safe and you're done.

If blind selling - state your restocking fee in advance if dros fails
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Cool. No paper work to sign? I remember seller did sign something in face-to-face PPT.

The receiving FFL will need a copy of your drivers license to log it in to their books, but nothing to sign as the shipper.

Shipping can be a pain, depending on who you use and their local policies.

If it is not a handgun action, ship USPS - usually easier and cheaper.

Hardest part will be collecting the money and making sure it is good money.

Get enough info from FFL to use ATF EZ-Check (first 3 digits and the last 5 digits of the FFL), and ship directly to the address on the FFL with a legible color copy of your ID/DL, and a note with the buyer’s name and contact info.

If the action is antique (pre 1899) ship directly to buyer.

Pack it with a envelope taped to the barreled action. You can put the barreled action into a garbage bag and use strapping tape to completely surround the plastic bag.
Buy a cheap plastic gun case and put the barreled action inside of it then tape a second envelope with all your contact info and strapping tape it.
I have received broken gun cases but have never had any damage.
People trying to save 50 cents on tape are always the ones reporting trouble.
USPS doesn't guarantee overnight shipping so you can't send a pistol but everything else is good.
                  Good Luck!!!

I've spoken at length with ATF regional management and a copy of your DL is NOT their requirement. ATF only needs you to show a ship-from (name and address) that matches the transfer paperwork. That said, the FFL may, for their own desires, DEMAND one. I had a rifle sale that the receiving FFL, AFTER THE FACT, said they needed a copy of my DL - the rifle was sitting there in front of him. I e-mailed him one with the DOB, month and day of renewal, and license number blanked out - and they (the FFL and buyer) finally went forward. FYI, the DL in my wallet has all that blanked out - share that info at your own risk (i.e., chance of identity theft).

If you are concerned about a rifle case (shape) being a dead giveaway, contact your local packaging store and have them build you a sturdy, double-wall, custom box (high density foam all around inside - does not need to be contoured to match your gear, just use scraps of high density foam to block the gear so it does not move AT ALL). I prefer a top and bottom design - a lot easier to lock down the gear to avoid movement that an end-access style Also, unless you can get a rifle case at a really low cost (one that is sturdy), you will likely find that a custom cardboard box will cost less. And...tape that box to an excess, all seams, X by Y (both directions). NOTE - if you have done your part in stopping ALL movement, only a serious mess-up by the carrier will result in disappointment. Good shipping!

I agree that it is not required by law, but it's oftentimes far easier just to send it, than to argue with an FFL that "has been doing this for 25 years and knows how it's done"

I wrap the BR in cardboard (like three feet of it) and cover with strapping tape, overlap the ends buy about 4 inches and add more tape. Tough as a two dollar steak.
                          Never had a problem.

That shouldn't even be a consideration. He's an agent of the buyer. They aren't required to agree to your terms unless you specified them in the sale listing. If you don't want to abide by his rules, tell the buyer the sale is off and make sure you put all your terms in the sale listing.

Sigstroker, I'm not sure what you mean. You would not sell to someone who's FFL wants your ID because of principle?

Sounds like a way to miss out on a whole lot of sales.
