    Need a trigger for PRS/NRL

I'm slowly starting a new build- 700 footprint action.

    I'm debating triggers....

Are the trigger tech's really THAT good? And durable in the dust/dirt?

A Trigger Tech "special" is bit cheaper than the Calvin Elite, and will get me into the pull weight I want. (between 1 and 2 lbs)

I know Jewells are a NO GO for PRS/NRL... seen several of them tank in the dirt.

I don't have enough experience to compare, but the TT Diamond is pretty sweet, clean break, no creep, no overtravel. But for me i prefer 2-Stage triggers.

TT is coming out with a 2-Stage, announced last year, and suppose to be released soon. Color for the Diamond 2-Stage is green.

The Calvin is a nice trigger. I have a Huber on my 300 Winmag and the Calvin is smother I think and half the cost.
      Keep Smiling!!!!

        Timney has a new trigger.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

The Bix 2 stage TacSport Pro is exceptionally nice..

I also have Hubers and Calvin Elite 2 stages..

I might piss people off my my Timney Calvin is spongy and brakes on a digital at different weights.

TTs are making a splash for their exceptional low set weight like Jewels, but less prone to dust. Not really a fan of 2-4oz triggers for working on a barricade

Calvin elite is decent but when you sit one side by side with a trigger tech diamond, you can really feel the creep. Its pretty noticeable compared to the trigger tech which has virtually none. That doesnt mean the CE is bad, but if you happen to be comparing, there is a noteworthy difference.

I also like the TT shoe better, but that's personal preference. At one point I had 3 calvin elites, I have replaced two of them with TT diamonds, and the other one just sits in a gun I never shoot.

I have had both triggers pretty dirty/dusty and never had an issue.

You sound exactly like someone I spoke to on the phone....
He likes the Huber 2 stage, and his calvin tanked first match from dust/dirt- which might be rare... I haven't heard that often....

A comp gun- I realistically want to be somewhere between 1-2 pounds... I'm not going for a BR 'breath on it wrong' trigger at sub 8oz. Sorry Lynn... not my game...

                  You shoot Pala right?

That dust/dirt hasn't messed up your CE's? Just curious because 1 person mentioned that to me.

I really am leaning to the TT pretty quickly from the comments.

Yea I shoot pala regularly and it's a pretty clean range compared to a lot of places but it does get dirty especially when we shoot from the 300 yard line. TPRC in 18 there was a lot of shooting prone in the dirt where your brake would kick up a ton of fine silty dust that made it way just about everywhere, CE ran fine for the whole match. Snipers hide last year I was getting up from a prone position moving to another and planted my boot in the wrong spot and inadvertantly kicked a mound of fine dirt all over my action and all over my windage turret lol. That one was a TT Diamond and it ran fine the rest of the match as well. The NRL match at pala on day 2 we were out at the 300 yard line and there was a good amount of moving in and out of the prone in the dirt and no issues.

I personally wouldnt worry about having a dust related failure with either one, just give your gear a little TLC after a dirty match and you'll be fine. Dont get me wrong, anything can fail unexpectedly, but as far as I can tell, neither one has a reputation or track record of failing in poor conditions. That being said, I really would recommend the TT Diamond over the CE, but both will get the job done. You can catch them on sales that make the price difference between them pretty small, I think I paid $215 delivered for my last one.

ETA: Before I switched to TT I was eyeballing the Tacsport pretty hard but if I recall correctly, they were saying (at the time, not sure if it's still a thing) that they dont play well with bighorn actions. I think that's what kept me from trying it. I wouldnt mind putting one through its paces one day, but the TT is so nice I just havent seen a reason to seek out other options.

ETA #2: If you want to check them both out, I'd be happy to bring them down to Pala one day and you can get some trigger pulls on each one. Both are on 2 lugs and in identical MPA chassis so it would actually be a pretty good apples to apples comparison.

Thanks Pete for the info and the invitation. The TT curve... are you talking about ?standard?, or 'comp' curve? Or.. I think the diamond only comes with the comp curve?

This is for a JJ Rock 2 lug 700 footprint action. Yeah, I never heard of JJ Rock before either... but since I pulled a gift certificate off the table at Pala at NRL West Coast Showdown... I figure I'll give it a try. Looks good- feels good... should shoot straight... That's a fairly new company with several gunsmiths including John Kalil, and Rock McMillan... So.. they should know what they're doing...

Got an MDT ACC chassis here.... need trigger, barrel, brake, scope base/mount/scope... Arca bipod adapter... etc.... Not gonna finish this build until summer.

And as always, I appreciate Lynn for his knowledge and help- though this question doesn't apply to his trade. I'd love the opportunity to head up North and meet Lynn and play with his rifles.

Oh no kidding, so then you know all about shooting out in the dirt at that match. That barrel stage on day two had my rifle pretty well covered in dust, no issues though. Congrats on that cert, I think that action will serve you well. When it comes time to get a barrel spun up for it shoot me a PM.

Yea I run the pro-curve shoes. The profile is very similar on the CE but the face of the shoe is nice and square whereas the face of the shoe on the CE is more rounded. Never bothered me before, but now that I'm used to the TT I feel that roundedness immediately and it bugs me.

Not sure what options are available on the TT special, I want to say they only do the standard curved and flat shoes, I dont remember if they offer a "pro-curve" profile on that one.

agree with @meety peety about the CE and diamond...

ive shot a huber..CE singe and 2 stage..BnAs..jewel and now the TT diamond.

huber i just didnt like only shot it for a couple weeks it had creep and over travel

CE shot for about a yr they was ok but could never get it tuned just right especially the 2 stage and i did have the 2 stage fail one time but a shot of lighter fluid and good to go.

jewel was the worst...shot it for about 6mos...could never get it adjusted and any dirt and it went down

ive been shooting the 2 stage tac spots in my center fire and vudoo for about 3 years and love these triggers...ive never cleaned them and never had a issue with either one...it took me a 50ish dry fires to get them set just right but could never get the over travel out of them.

ive wanted to try a TT diamond for awhile now so i bought one figuring id be posting it on the hide the next day...i was wrong...i bought another for my vudoo before i put my center fire back in the stock.

i cant say how they hold up in the field yet but i can say these are the cleanest breaking,no over travel easiest to adjust triggers ive ever owned or pulled...im pretty sure ill be selling my BnAs here mid season.
