    Improved Grouping, Remington 700 .308.

    Folks,

I purchased a PTG speedlock firing pin for my Remington 700 in .308, and came up with a new load. Using a 168gr Nosler E-tip, over 43.7gr CFE223, virgin brass Hornady, #34 primer, 2.75 COAL. MUCH better groupings out of my 24 inch stainless Remington 700 SPS. First pic is I first took it out, second is most recent trip to ASR.
Bottom left 4 shot group, 1.10 inches at 100. Second 3 shot group .60 inches at 100 yards. Dead center! Very pleased! A2 Having trouble loading photo of new group. Will add later.

There is a lot to be said for real shooting vs keyboard & virtual shooting. Hand in there.

Do the final finish bullets and watch that shrink even further

IMR 4064 or varget powder this is what you want, for 308 & 168’s.

can you le me know why you replaced the firing pin? I ask because we have a Remington 700 that appeared to have delay between trigger pull and ignition. Took bolt apart and cleaned, relubed, replaced fire pin spring and observed some improvement. looking for next steps. Gun also wants heavier bullets loaded a bit longer than max.

I am curious why you chose such a heavy copper bullet.

My tsx loads all use mag primers (.270 & 06) are .75-1 grain below max pressure and are back off the lands .04-.05 and watch your groups tighten.

You can always call Barnes technical support.....that's how I found the magic formula.

I also did the FF bullets & the speedlock firing pin on both M70 and my groups all touch

                      Kevin,

The 168gr will HOPEFULLY be used on a cow elk in the fall. I am working with an outfitter about an hour out of Evanston Wyoming. A2
