6.5 Grendel hunting rifle.

Congrats on the pronghorn, that's a fun hunt.
Why not get a short action Remington 700, spin on a Grendel barrel, and use the stock and bottom metal you prefer? You could probably come up under 7.5 lbs. Maybe a .223 sized CZ could be rebarreled?Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator. -
Because the cost of the bolt and special magazines makes it much more expensive than a 6.5 Creedmoor which also has a few hundred feet per second advantage with a given bullet weight.
6.5 Grenade literally makes no sense in a 700.
A 223 CZ bolt would not work but a 7.62x39 model CZ would work.Randall Rausch

CZ or a Remington Model 7. Personally Id build a nice little Model 7.Comment

There ya go, put a lightweight fixed 4x scope on there and you're all set. Would be better with flush mags though. Why not a CZ 527 American which comes chamber in 6.5 Grendel?

I have a grendel AR in 20" and it weighs about 10 lbs with a medium profile 20" barrel, brake and 4-16x Vortex scope. Are you sure a bolt action will be lighter than that? My 30-06 bolt action weighs nominally less than my Grendel AR rig. My creedmoor weighs dramatically more than both rigs. Maybe it would be cheaper to buy a lower profile barrel for your current rig and a lighter scope than a whole new rifle and scope.... that's my two cents atleast.God, Guns & Integrity. In the weight of your average non-safari hunting rifle (say 7.5 lbs give or take half a pound) you can pretty much always get a bolt action with a 22 inch barrel shooting a .308 class round. You can choose to shoot smaller cartridges like Grendel (or even a WSSM) but the weight of the gun will be about the same. That does give you a pretty good advantage over an AR however in that for the same weight in an AR you're likely to lose 4 or so inches of barrel and have something that's less convenient to carry.
So on the weight/performance ratio, bolt actions will pretty much always win no matter the cartridge.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment

Agree, Randall.
Some of the 6.5 Creedmoor rifles are listed at 6-6.5 lbs, IIRC. It's been a couple of days since I looked.
There's likely a few lighter than that. For the cost, weight, function, and quality, the Tikka seems to be a pretty reasonable compromise. There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.
It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?Comment

OP already bought a Howa. I don't see where he's actually asking anything, just stating what he bought.Comment

OP said "I wanted a wood stock, BDL style rifle. This is not available, but with some aftermarket support a rifle can be turned into lightweight sporting rifle." before listing off what was done to one of the few available 6.5 Grendel bolt action rifles.
I (at least) took this to mean they were open to other ideas on how to make a BDL style bolt action Grendel.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment
