Check to see if any of the site-wide or coupon code vendors on this list carry them. Brownells' code for 11% off that Bicky mentioned is "HAA."

MDT has expanded its offering of both polymer and metal magazines. Check out our different MDT magazines selection for short action and long actions calibers with capacities of five, ten or twelve rounds depending on the model. MDT's magazines are AICS compatible to fit our MDT chassis systems and many more.

              How important is this?

And for those that want to risk buying non-branded, what do we need to expect? To have to do some fitting to make sure it drops free via gravity, and feed lip adjustment and polishing?

Or is there something fundamental that PRS shooters know that really requires branded mags for best performance?

It's only important if you require quality.
The people that understand that and would likely know how to adjust and fix magazines are usually the people that understand and don't need to fix them because they bought good ones to begin with.
The people that don't know or believe there is a difference are also usually the people that won't know how to fix them either.
They just ponder why one mag won't work as good as another.

Some people have better luck with non-AI mags than AI mags. It depends on the gun.

OTM has some 6715 338 CIP length mags for $78. $2 more then what brownells priced them for on their Black Friday sale.

AI metal mags feed way slicker than any plastic lipped mags.
Plastic is sticky compared to metal.

Avtually, I thought the opposite, but didn’t want to argue. There’s no detail. Just “the quality is better, and if you don’t buy them then you should feel bad about yourself”

I was hoping for something better, like maybe parallelism of non AI mags is worse, the tolerance of box size is worse, feed lips can be rough, I don’t know. Whatever aspect that really drives AICS mags to be better to be stated.

                            Why?

I recently bought three 338 CIP mags. 2x AICS brand, one OTM brand. ONE of the three mags has an issue with the sides bowing out when fully loaded and is hard to install because of it. It’s an AICS branded one. All three needed feed lips polished.

On the other hand, I bought two off-brand AICS mags for my short action RPR, and both needed exterior wall side polishing to drop free nicely. Now they are slick as snot and perform wonderfully. But didn’t work out of the box.

So I don’t see it in terms of actual measurable performance. I can fix diensional issues, but I don’t have a clue what to do about side wall bowing. And it’s an AICS brand mag that has the side wall bowing.
