You make your own, or is it PTG?
I was debating doing reverse, but I’m incorporating the Tungsten Carbide as a surface. And I can’t machine the Tungsten to fit the cocking piece sleeve. So the BB was the way for me. It works very well!
Here’s a little vid of my bolt operation. One finger operation on free standing rifle. It’s smooth as can be now!

Diamond wheel on the surface grinder or EDM will go right through carbides.

I was referring to making the same thing but without the ball bearing or hole. Taking a solid rod of Tungsten and making a shouldered shim like this, would be anything but easy. Yes, I could with CBN or diamond inserts, but they are expensive, and really no point, as I’m doing it this way. That is what I meant.Last edited by Dave Hoback; 10-28-2019, 8:36 AM.Comment

Shaping tungsten or even carbide is certainly not easy on your drill press, but not difficult at all with the proper tool like a surface grinder with diamond wheels.Randall Rausch

Lol! It’s a vertical Milling machine, not a drill press. Drill presses don’t hold side loading very well. Although I did use a drill press in the past.
I understand what you are saying. And yes, surface grinders work well. I use the one I BUILT very often in my custom knifemaking. Well, SGA* Surface Grinder Attachment. But a surface grinder is 1-dimensional.
Also built the belt grinder as well.Last edited by Dave Hoback; 10-28-2019, 11:21 AM.Comment

And I think you meant that the other way around Randall. As Tungsten Carbide is the alloy. Pure Tungsten alone is an element, #74 on the Periodic Table, and is most difficult to work in that state. Alloying the element, I.e., Carbiding with other elements is what is found in almost ALL products. Despite some simply referring to it as Tungsten. This aids in working/machining.Comment

Why not just use a 30-06 AP tip out of a bullet and drill the big screw next to the bolt handle?
And one finger to me means very little effort and the rifle doesn't move in the rests. BAT machine rollerized bolt shroud smooth
A gun that is held in place like yours in the video doesn't need a bolt lift kit to use one finger.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

EDIT: It’s not being “held” in place! That is a cleaning rest that weighs less than a pound. All it’s doing is holding the rifle upright. And I only have ONE ARM/HAND to use! So I’m not holding it down. Why not just use a 30-06 AP tip out of a bullet and drill the big screw next to the bolt handle?

What are you talking about?? I don’t believe you are very familiar with Savage Actions my friend. Which is fine. If you are sincere & would like, I have no problem explaining some things for your edification. But your attempt at somehow minimizing this tells me you are not ready to learn anything. And I have no desire explaining to someone who wants to debate their incorrect point.Last edited by Dave Hoback; 10-28-2019, 2:14 PM.Comment

I have not run into pure tungsten rods that were NOT also known as carbide so I was talking about how you would work with carbide rod as Carbide is about the hardest billet material you could work with to make the shape you are talking about. And I think you meant that the other way around Randall. I don't care about it being an element vs an alloy.
I only care what I have to order to get the material I want to do the job I need done.
I have had to grind and cement many carbide blanks over the years to make specialized form tools so I have the necessary surface grinding equipment.
Don't go down the surface grinder rabbit hole.
Just don't.
It completely ruins you on 3 digit measurements being good enough.Randall Rausch

I am always willing to learn especially from such a noted competitive shooter as yourself so please explain on.EDIT: It’s not being “held” in place! The picture is of the same cleaning cradle except in my picture you can see how it clamps onto the stock preventing it from moving. The cradle in the back doesn't.
You got me on the Savage conundrum as I only own one and won't be buying anymore. The Savage was sent to me free of charge by the way by a fellow Calgun member. It's a 338 Lapua Ackley Improved with a 33 inch Bartlein barrel and SSS competition trigger and weighs 22 pounds.
