    George Gardner explains the 6GT

Sounds like a pretty cool cartridge.

a lot of PRS guys are switching to this

for the past month or so there's been a brass shortage

it's been interesting to watch guys be more ambitious than me when it comes to hunting for brass after a stage.

    And I shoot a dasher

Appears to be a good reason to switch. I think he said you could just ream your dasher chamber to 6GT. It's like a new barrel for cheap.

As for brass hunting, attaches to Pic rail:

you're aware chambering a barrel cost more than the barrel it self

I'll wait to see the barrel life and brass production reports before switching.

For now, I don't see the huge advantage over the BR variants.
        especially the dasher.

as for the brass catcher, thats a no go for PRS or any competition for that matter
        - safety concern
        - no easy way to clear jams
        - won't allow for ideal positions

NorCal vu has a 3 page thread on the hide with his 6GT.

dasher killer? LOL!! doubtful! cool 6MM i guess but its so close to a few others i dont see the point.

i shoot a 6BRX and it will produce the same or better speeds with a bit less powder...down fall is fire forming or having the brass hydro formed and IMO fire forming is not really a big deal as i like to have a 100ish rounds through a barrel before i actually do load development.

as far as accuracy goes im sure it will be a typical 6mm and very accurate but its really going to need to do something pretty impressive to convince me as ive shot some pretty small groups at distance with a BRX.

the 6BRA is what has my interest right now(my reamer will be done next month)because all it is is a 6BR with a 40* shoulder and slightly less taper that will run a 105 at 2950-2980 with 31ish grains of powder.

this is a 6BRX with 725 rounds through it...i just started playing with mandrels and dry lube last wkend to try and improve my ESs...like i say the GT is going to have to do something pretty extraordinary to impress me.

If you buy a new barrel you still have to pay the cost of chambering. And tenoning, and threading.

Seems like it has some advantage from what he said.

            That was a joke, son.

Vu and Dan B. (of Team CS Tactical) who are doing some T&E and load development for 6 GT are posting some very detailed information on Sniper's Hide and other places. Dan has done well with 6 Dasher and I believe was an early adopter, hence his nickname is "Dasher Dan" With Hornady's new 6GT brass, George's influence I think it will stick around and will eventually have factory ammo made. Here's an article by those guys on 6 GT http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/...ctical-rifles/

                not sure about you,

but I'd rather have a new chambered barrel for $700

rather than a used barrel with a new chamber for $400

rechambering a used barrel is only worth it if the blank is special, or worth more than the labor.

if not it's waste, double the price, for half the output

                    exactly!!

ive had 2 barrels set back...a 260 that had 1000ish rounds through it and re-chambered to 260AI...it started throwing flyers at about 400 rounds.

i also...not long ago had a 6BR set back...it never shot like it should of after and i pulled it at 250ish rounds.

ill never have a barrel set back its a waste of money...ill shoot them until it starts throwing flyers pull it and spin on a new on.
