    6.5-284 vs 6.5 Creedmoor

Had opportunity to fire a few round from a 6.5-284; Mauser action with 28" Douglas barrel. Tack driver!

Have not had opportunity to shoot 6.5 Creedmoor, but wondered how the two compare?

A little searching shows 6.5-284 is faster, but requires a long action.

let me first say that i haven't shot the 6.5-284 but i did query this as reviewing potential new barrel options.

while reportedly a very accurate round i'm told it has a lot more recoil and the barrel life is short...good barrels are really expensive and i prefer an easier to shoot caliber for my needs, the 6.5x47 L.

looking forward to hearing other's experience

The difference between 6.5creedmoor and 6.5x284 is about like the difference between a 308 Winchester and a 300 Winchester magnum.
      Longer action.
      More powder.
      More velocity.
      More barrel wear.
      More recoil.
      More energy on target.
      More expensive to shoot.

You had to what? Post that factory loaded ammunition for 6.5-284 exists? Well of course it does. I apologize you MISUNDERSTOOD, LOL.

Go to your local gun store & look at the ammunition shelf. Count up the different brands, weights, etc., of 6.5 Creed, and that of 6.5-284. Then you will understand my meaning. Not quite sure what you were going for there, but hopefully you understand that now.

Personally given the choice, I would choose 284 no question. But in fact I did have ANY choice, and it was actually down to 6.5-284, 6.5 Creed & 6.5-08. I wanted short action, which cut 284 out. But I ONLY reload, and 260Rem surpasses Creed in velocity with equal accuracy potential.

Ive always read that barrels should be treated like tires on a car. They wear out and you replace them.

The rifle I shot, my in-law handloaded for with Lapua brass. With the Douglas barrel, it is a tack driver. He is a retired gunsmith, that still does his own work.

I shoot short action and long action; I don't find the longer action to be a particular issue in operation.

I did find it interesting that he built a tack driver on a Mauser action, in this day and age of the Rem700 being king.
