    Scope advice

Hello, just ordered a Savage model 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor

Shrink groups and expand your range with the 12 Long Range Precision, featuring a 26" fluted barrel, Target AccuTrigger, and HS Precision fiberglass stock.

What will you be using the rifle for? That helps determine some choices in scope reticle, magnification range, and adjust-ability. Are you shooting paper, Elk? What distances? Light conditions? Get lot's of input from experienced shooters before you make that leap, maybe it can help you avoid buyers remorse.

That Nightforce is SFP. I'd strongly suggest FFP since that's clearly not a hunting rifle. What's your budget?

If you're shooting targets, a scope with high magnification is fine. If you're hunting four legged critters, I'd suggest a lower power scope - no more than 10x magnification.

Thanks for all the replies so far. My budget is about $1,500 but could push it up to $2,000 if needed (pay once, cry once). I'm mainly going to be using this for shooting paper from a bench during the day.

I know it's a heavy rifle for hunting, but if there is a scope that could pull double duty for hunting in a crunch, I'm all ears.

                  Thanks again

That is a myth. A few years from now scope companies will come out with a new and improved generation, and you'll be paying and crying again.

Exactly. The $1,000 to $1,500 scope market is flooded with high-quality scopes. A used scope that's only a few years old is a fantastic buy these days.

I've hunted with my 5.5x22 Nightforce for antelope, deer and long range varminting.

When big game hunting at 100 yards the target has to be standing still or walking to keep it in the field of view. You only have about 17 feet in the field of view at 5.5X and at 22X it's less than 5 feet.

Speaking of which, I just saw a great price on an F-class scope. Probably not of interest to OP, but I imagine some people here might want one.

Burris XTR II 8-40x for $700. These are over $1200 regular price, 34mm tube, all that jazz. It got great reviews when it was introduced a few years ago. Burris released the XTR III recently, so now the II's gotta go.

Glass is junk on the xtr 2. Look at a bushnell dmr 2 pro. Can be had around $1000 used and $1400 new
