Which 6.5 cm for long range?

I currently have a 308 700 5r and want to pickup a 6.5

Some suggestions have been

What do you guys think is a good bang for buck?

Which Bergara? The B14 or the Premier/Pro? HMR, BMP or LRP?

The B14 HMR delivers a lot of value for less than $1K, I chose it because I liked the stock.

Another one to consider is the Savage Stealth Evolution. It came out a couple years ago and is much smoother than the Savages from 5 years ago. They get put on sale a fair amount and Savage occasionally does rebates on them. I've seen them online recently for $1250-1300. The other good thing about Savages is they are in stores more often than other brands, like at Cabela's, etc. so you can fondle them.

why not just have a barrel chambered in 6.5 on your 700?

I'm getting ready to have a custom 6.5 built.
I think I will be selling my predator in order to fund it.
1/4 moa gun in my hands. Selling the gun with the hidden mods like jbweld and sand with scope for $700.I do not shoot it under 900 yards since it is a laser. It's not tacticool like a rpr but it can easily keep up with one. I typically stay .6 moa at 1250 yards. At 1 mile the bullet is the limiting factor but you should be fine at 1400. maybe 300 rounds through it but I'll just say 400 to be safe. need to count the brass.

other than that i would suggest skipping over those low mid range guns and going straight to custom. ive shot most of those and they are closer to a $400 gun than a $2500 custom built gun. or get a chassis to make my predator tacticool if you need looks.

Hard to beat the RPRs as far as $/performance. I know three folks that have 6.5CM RPR's and love 'em. I've shot them and liked them. The Tikas & Howas are also nice rifles. I see a lot of both on the rifle lines. But if you can spend even a little more money, I'd go for the Bergara personally. The fit & finish based on the ones I've seen, IMO are plainly better then the comparable Tikka or Howa products. The BMP or LRP are just beautifully designed and built. If the choice is the Bergara B-14 HMR(that's the current model yes?) v the RPR, that is a tough call. Those are kind of different critters OP. That all said, I do not have lots of time behind one OP. Others are probably more qualified to speak to that.

I know a lot of folks don't, but I happen to like the stock on the RPR's, do you OP? The B-17 HMR is a more conventional hunting style stock. I've never seen the HMR in person. Do you like that style of stock OP? I know lots of folks prefer that sort of weight distribution. If you grew up a hunter, that is probably what you're accustomed to.

I do volunteer as an RO at my local range. One of the main 'percs of that gig is you get to see all the cool and different things people show up with. Most often folks are happy to show off their weapons if asked politely. So I've had chance to handle, talk to the owners of, and even fire a few Bergara rifles. I have always been impressed when I've looked at any of the Bergara products. Particularly the fit and finish of the BMP & LRP, to me, are just beautiful. As I often do after one of my shifts, I went and looked them up later. I was surprised by the relatively affordable price tags. If I'd had to guess, I'd have guessed a goodly bit higher price based on the design and fit and finish of those two rifles. But again, my experience is not in driving any of these. And the OP, is what it is all about right? So take all of the above with the proverbial grain of salt sir.

The BMP is similarly priced, but has a stock that is focused on precision shooting. The HMR is like an amalgamation for hunting and precision. It sounds like you want to do precision shooting.

The LRP is like the BMP, but with an upgraded trigger, action, and more stock adjustment from the factory. All of them have fully floated barrels. The HMR Pro gets you the upgraded action, trigger, and a stainless barrel.

I would honestly shy away from a factory Rem 700, just because the barrel, you will want to upgrade pretty quickly after you start shooting-- which ultimately will cost more than just buying a rifle with an upgraded barrel like Tikka or Bergara.

I’m happy with my RPR in 6.5c. Comes with 20moa base factory. Slap a decent scope and bipod and got shooting 1000-1400 out the box.

I would never plan to hunt with it so weight is not issue. Mainly precision shooting as you mention. Seems like many like the begera

I like both of my RPR's. The trigger is the one thing that needs a little improvement, like a lot of other rifles. An easy fix is a $10 lighter spring Ruger Precision Rifle Reduced Power Spring ~1 - 1.5 lb. But it's not a must have item.

I have the S&W 6.5 1,000+ yards on target no problem, on the upper end with cost on rifle's above.

The Howa 1500 can be purchased as a barreled action only. That would be my choice as you can tacticool it up without wasting new factory parts. My friend has one and we've taken it to 1 mile without much grief.
