Question about Savage Hog Hunter magazine style

Savage has been revamping their line the last few years. Sounds like you got an old model.

Iirc 11 and 110 refers to the action length. Long action is 3 digits (110), short is 2. Don't know how they call out blind or nonblind mags. Btw, I have a .338wm hog hunter. It's a great rifle for what it is.

Long actions can be chambered in short action cartridges.
Just because you have a short action cartridge, it does not guarantee you have a short action.
Savage chambered LOTS of long actions in short action cartridges.
What is the screw spacing on the action from the center of the front action screw to the center of the action screw that sits in front of the trigger?

If the action is the same, look for a take off. Boyd doesn't have anything yet.

Savage chambered LOTS of long actions in short action cartridges

It's cheaper to make only one size action.
This lets you produce fewer different parts.

As an example, Tikka T3's only come in long action.
For short action cartridges, they install a longer bolt stop to reduce how long the bolt travels and a shorter length magazine to fit the shorter cartridges.

I just pulled out my Savage 110 and Savage 12. Both are marked as such on the barrel and the bolt spacing on both is 4.5" so they are both Short action but the models dont agree.

So, I'm sticking to the idea that their model numbers dont mean anythig anymore.

At one point they chambered short actions on the same long actions receivers.

Measure more accurately to determine what you have.
Pre 1987 is 4.522"
Post 2005 is 4.400"

Thank you guys. I’ve been able to determine my 11 is a short action based on the information you’ve provided.

What do I need to do in order to make it a detachable magazine rifle? I’d be interested in knowing about stocks and detachable kits any of you may have firsthand experience with.

You probably have to get another stock. You might be able to find a Savage take-off that fits that has a detachable mag. Most people on a budget that do this get a Boyd's stock that uses an AICS magazine. Or you can spend more and get a chassis that has a built-in magwell, usually also using the AICS mag.
