    Remington 700 feed ramp notch

So i have a remington 700 i put in a mpa ba chassis. I have been having issues with magpul aics mags with feeding. Rounds are getting caught under the feed ramp.
I called mpa and they told me i need to make a notch in the feed ramp with a dremel. Im not too cool with that. I live in ontario and need this done. I was going to try to shoot my first match sunday but if i cant get this working in obviously cant shoot.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Not hard to do. Just needs a steady hand. Do a Google search for Remington M700 feed ramp notch.. lots of images of what is required. Look through the magwell and mark how much you have to notch. Could do it with a small round file, just takes longer.

Well the Dremel method is cheaper and easier than the other solution...which is to get a new barrel with a proper chamber.

Randall, or anyone else with a mill can make a nice clean cut away in the feed ramp in a few minutes.

I'll second Randall for just about anything bolt related in Van Nuys.

Explain this to me as I'm not an gunsmith. The feed ramp on a Remington 700 is not part of the barrel.

Magpul AICS mags are known for having issues, one of which is allowing the rounds to slide forward in the magazine which will mimic the same problem has having your COAL be too long (Which is what would require the notch).
I assume MPA walked you through all of the easy things to check before jumping straight to notch the feed ramp? If not, shoot me a PM and I'll walk you through it.

Either way, go to the match even if you don't end up shooting. There will be plenty of people there running AI, MDT, AM, ETC magazines there. Ask someone to borrow one and put a few rounds through it.

If you run OEM AICS mags you won't have a problem, it has a binder plate limiting the COAL to prevent it. This problem only occurs with mags without the binder plate.

A quick visual on the binder plate.

Yup has it done on mine. If not comfortable send it to a gun smith and they can knock it out quick, if they are quick . It is definitely worth it especially if looking to run Berger bullets as they are pretty long.

It's the price you pay for not spending the money on metal mags.... Not a big deal considering.

Not the issue. In fact the metal mags have more room in them so you can put longer rounds in them which would cause the issue even more.

Metal mags have more room because they can be made thinner.
Standard AICS metal mags also come with a spacer in front so that the bullet tips won't get under the reciever like is happening to cause this thread to even be posted.
Only non-standard metal mags and plastic mags cause this problem which is cured by cutting the reciever.

What normally happens when a cartridge is shorter than the magazine is that the bolt causes the cartridge to slide to the rear of the magazine as the bolt is being withdrawn to eject the previously fired cartridge.
This happens because the top cartridge in the magazine is bearing against the bolt by the tension of the magazine spring.
Then the cartridge pops up against the feed lips when the bolt clears the rear of the cartridge.
Then the bolt pushes against the base of the cartridge and slides the bullet up the feedramp until the cartridge clears the feed lips and pops up in front of the bolt and then the bolt pushes the cartridge all the way into the chamber.

Friction in plastic mags can often keep the cartridges from sliding BACK in the magazine as the bolt is withdrawn.
This is why they have problems clearing the feedramp when metal mags without a spacer often do not have the same problem unless the cartridges are loaded so long that they do not have enough room to slide back.
