    Winchester 92 hammer spring

Hey guys, I purchased a new Miroku Winchester 92 short rifle in 45 colt early this year. The hammer spring is really tight/heavy. I'm wondering if anybody has an idea for a lighter spring. It's not the same as the Rossi's, I compared the two.

Maybe there's another MB/forum that deals with Winchester only...
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

golfish, I'm guessing the trigger pull feels like 10lbs? Don't know of any aftermarket lighter springs. A flat spring like that can be lightened by removing material and making it thinner. BUT....there's a catch. Too light, it won't pop primers, not done right the spring snaps.
Material removed has to be uniform. Filing has to be done lengthwise, then the spring needs to be polished mirror smooth. Any thin spots or cross scratches will be a point for breakage.
There's a number of CAS smiths that do this work, and probably cheaper than trial & error with a box of spare springs.

I was able to cycle the stiffness out of my Rossi 92s but this Winchester isn't having any of that. I don't mind the trigger pull as much as I do levering a round. I wonder if they make it so strong due to the rebounding hammer.

Mark, check out "Winchester Owners.com". They oughta have something.
Sure like that '92 you have. You'll get it running smooth.

Thanks guys, I've read some good stuff from those two links. I'll figure it out after a couple beers

I've read of misfires caused by the rebounding hammer. I bought a Winchester 1895 Takedown and did a little on line research regarding changing to a non-rebound type. The rebounding hammer can be replaced with a non-rebounding type, however it requires replacing the trigger also - the current version uses a two piece trigger and sear and is incompatible with a non-rebounding hammer. I took a slightly different route.

I cut a half-cock notch in the rebound hammer, removed the tang safety lever and its external tab. I bought a Lyman #2 Tang sight, had the 2nd hole for the base D&T on the tang. The Lyman base entirely covers the tang safety area so it's as though the safety was never there. I've kept the parts and can reverse if I decide to sell the rifle.
