    Magneto speed sporter VS 338LM

Well wanted to chrono some handloads on my magnum
And the second round down the barrel BLEW my chrono
Off the barrel. Tore the strap pretty bad and the chrono
Fell onto the bench in pieces.

    BTW------i didn't shoot the chrono........it blew off.
The only good to come out is i got one chrono'd round.

    90gr of RL25 and a 250gr lapua scenar out of a 26" barrel gives me around 2800fps.

Never ever had an issue with a V3 on a 338 or well, any gun. But have seen other people clip the crown with results almost exactly as you described.

No doubt plenty have been shot off. But i see no marks on it. I always put a stick
In the barrel to check clearance. I haven't had problems with any other rifles
      With brakes or not.

Didn't take a pic. Basically just the strap shows damage. The strap tore part ways across
It pulled the strap out of the clamp and the chrono fell of the barrel.

That doesn't look like a V3 model Bayo. It looks like the V2 econo Bayo.
In either case, how far back did you set the Bayo for the readings?
It is designed to have the wide "dip" in the bayo right under the end of the muzzle.
I have the V3 model and have been using it for some time now and it works perfect every time.
ALSO, did you install the soft rubber spacer against the barrel OR the hard plastic one, It will make the bayo slip in the latter scenario.
sorry to hear about your issue. I would contact Magnetospeed and have them send you the parts necessary for the re-build, they are really good about customer service.

Tapered barrel profile? No wedge in the mount to keep the far end out of the barrel axis? or something?

                Edit: nevermind. My bad.

It is the sporter version. I put it where i have been putting it on all my other rifles
Since i got it 2 years ago. This particular rifle does have a large brake on it, perhaps that is the issue. The first round came out and i got a good fps reading, but the second one
Was when this happened. I used the soft insert.

                    This,
I forgot about the tapered barrels, You do need their Red tapper shims for that type of barrel or the bayo can slip if not tightened down securely
the Red shims come in a two pack of different thicknesses for proper alignment of the Bayo on the tapered barrels.

A very heavy large Brake will give most any Chrono issues. At least the bayo looked to be intact, so the re-build will be at little cost.

I have the sporter version, it doesnt't use the "wedges" it is made for tapered barrels.
I have used it on many sporter barrels with brakes. This particular rifle doesnt't have
Much taper but does have a large brake, i think that is the problem.

My WAG would be the muzzle brake blew it off.

I've used my v3 for everything from 5.56 (MK 262) to 300 win mag with 0 issues. I'm very careful about how everything is aligned and fastened, but 300 win mag isn't a 338 LM so who knows.
