Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 Scope...Opinions Please!

Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 Second Focal Plane scope - BDC Reticle (MOA) with Vortex Hat. With Vortex 30mm low rings.

Narrowed my search down to this scope. I want a easy to use, easy to master scope.

Application is a fun range gun 25 to 125 yards. Gun is stock Mossberg MVP Patrol 5.56mm bolt action, 16" barrel with 2 point sling.

    School Me! TIA.

It's designed to be compact and low profile on an AR type rifle. You don't need that because you're putting it on a bolt gun. You also don't need the bullet drop compensating features because you're only shooting 125 yards. Nor do you need 1x power setting that's intended for CQB shooting. You might be better off with a traditional 2-7x or 3-9x hunting type scope that has a bigger objective and is easier to use. You can find decent 1 inch tube scopes from major brands on sale at various times for well under $200.

        ^^that
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Agreed, you may want to take objective size in consideration - can make getting a sight picture quickly and repeatably much easier. I think 3x on the low range is a little high for 25 yrds.

I like the 2-7x for his range. Leupold makes a vx-freedom line. Very lightweight and cost effective. They also have a 1-4x.

Works great on my M&P 15, isn't the new version 1-8x?

Not a new one, a different one. I have one of each.

                  Thanks guys for the input.

I've decided I'm going to stay with the iron sights.

                  Thank again.

I have the Leupold 2x7 Freedom on my Henry Golden Boy, a perfect fit.

We both have the 1X8 version on several of our guns.. By far one of our favorite scopes!

I've got one on my 6.8SPC AR, I've shot several deer and a bunch of hogs with it. I'm very happy with it. Fast target acquisition on 1x. The reticle isn't my favorite, wish it was a little less busy since I don't really have a need for the BDC. Palmetto State Armory had the 1-8x with mount on sale for $279 that I picked up, haven't shot it yet but so far I think I like that reticle better than the 1-6x

I really liked the vortex 1-6 on a 10/22 for plinking beyond 100 yards.

I ended up getting the primary arms 1-8 (not the platinum) and think I prefer the eye relief of the 6x.

Sounds like the right decision here.
