A 22" 1:9 twist barrel should handle up to 70-75 grain match rounds. The 69g Sierra Match King bullet would be hard to beat.

Agree. 26" Savage .223 groups really well with 69g FGMM.

Agree w/all the above. AE 62 gr M855 is great for punching body armor but might be the most inaccurate 5.56 ammo you can get.

Thanks, gents! I still have a couple of boxes of the American Eagle, and 1 box of Federal Fusion MSR 62 gr soft tip, but will check my LGS for the 69 gr Match King.

I have an older 110 4x4 model, and it shoots everything from 40 gr V-Max or Ballistic Tips to 69 gr Matchkings well under an inch, usually a half inch. These are my handloads, though. My buddy has the heavy barreled Model 10 and his shoots about as well and also likes the Rem 45 gr HP 40 round pack ammo. The Winchester 45 gr white box 40 round pack ammo usually shoots very well, too.

Neither one seems to care for anything longer than the 69 gr Matchking.

Just a follow-up to my OP--

Was out at the range again yesterday. A friend measured the factory set trigger pull weight at 2.8 lb., which is a nice, safe weight.

I shot 3-3 round groups at 25 yards using the American Eagle 62 gr ammo. My friend did 1-3 shot group. Each group was dime-size, or little less.

My (very experienced) friend was impressed by the factory trigger.

My goal was to work on my hold, breathing, and trigger control shooting from the bench.

We both agreed that I got a nice shooter.

You can also make sure the action screws are torqued correctly. That is usually the first thing I checked on my bolt guns.

Air: I would love to start handloading, but my current living situation--a studio apt has no room for such an endeavor.

NiMiK: The action crews are tight. I check them before each shoot--same with the scope rings.

You can do it! My buddy had a small coffee table setup when he lived in a Studio Apartment back in the day. Yeah, it might be a bit difficult to have a volume operation, but you could certainly get yourself up and running to handload small batches of ammo for that rifle.

On sale at Natchez for 29 bucks. I'd get two if I were you. The top just slips off. I have a small Dillon on one top and a Dillon 550 and a Rockchucker on the other.
