Put in jail, 10 day wait.

    Folks,

I received my Weatherby Vanguard .223 20 inch heavy barrel today at Angeles Armory. WOW! Griptonite stock, 2 stage trigger, beautiful finish, barrel! For $415! A2

I have a Howa 1500 varmint and it's the second most accurate rifle I own behind a CZ 427 in .17HMR. The only change I've made is to adjust the trigger pull to make it lighter.

Now if only I can find some squirrels...

      Jack,

This one is going to be used for coyotes. I am optic shopping right now. I am looking at the Nightforce SHV, C556, 4x14x50. I hear the glass is superb. A2

I'm not sure you're asking for advice on a scope and whatever I offer is certainly worth less than you're paying for it.

For anything bigger than squirrels, I've been sticking with the types of scopes most people use for big game, so roughly 3-10 power and 40 or 44 inch objectives. I can see the value of a mildot scope for ranging since I can't estimate distance worth crap but my coyote rifle is a .243 and it has either a 2.5-8 or 3-9 scope on it.

If you don't mind spending the money and you plan on hunting coyotes in low light conditions, I could see springing for a Nightforce scope but it seems like overkill unless you can literally steal one.

For a point of reference, I know a fellow who likes to shoot squirrels at 800 yards with a Remington 700 in .220 Swift. That rifle wears a Tasco scope that goes to 24 power. I have a Vortex Diamondback 6-24x50 FFP scope on one .223 and a 4-14x44 Vortex Viper on the other one, mainly for the magnification. If you want magnification, those are good scopes at a reasonable price. Certainly more than enough to find and kill coyotes.

Point taken Jack. I do have a Vortex Strike Eagle 3x18x44 that I really like. SFP, very good glass, very useful reticle, and illuminated. I bought it when it first came out. $449. But I see that the are now about $349 street price.
I sold a Remington 700, and will have about $700 coming to me, I could use the money to buy a new Strike Eagle for my AR. And use the rest to buy reloading supplies! A2
