    remington 770

I need another "community gun" for our shoots at the coalinga range.
by "community" I mean for people who may be just getting into shooting
or thinking about getting into shooting, they can use the rifle if they
don't have their own. something light in recoil, accurate enough and
ammo availability at walmart or big 5.

anyway I have seen the 770 for cheap, would it be worth picking one up
in 243w? rifle will be in a rest on a bench and single feed.

Just get a Remington 783 they don't cost much, I have a 783 and it is a pretty good rifle, has really slick action. Criterion makes replacement barrels and Boyds make replacement stocks for it. Think you can even get chassis stock for it too if you wanted.

I believe it would fill that spot just fine. I have one in .270 cal and it shoots very good groups with good ammo. Seems like they are chunky but with some good lube for the plastic the bolt on mine works smooth. I recently bought some Original gun lube and that stuff does magic on everything I'v put it on.

        It's probably going to rust.

I don't have a 770 but the internet says no big deal if it rusts.

+1 on the 783. It's a solid enough rifle. I had one and was happy with it. The main issue is when you go to trick it out. Not much is available for it. But for the price it's gtg.

Get one in .223 if you can. .223 will be low recoil. Ammo is cheap and easily bought at big 5, walmart, etc.

if I am going to jump up in price, I will just buy a Howa. I just figured at that low price it would serve its purpose. they only offer the .243 on sale.

When my long time FFL operating out of his house dealer went out of business, I got one heck of a deal on a lightly used Remington 770 chambered in .30-06 springfield.

I did like the rifle it shot well, but having many other rifles in .30-06 put it on the bottom of my keeper list due to the lack of safe space. So in keeping with family tradition the rifle and lots of ammunition went to live with my nephew in Arizona. He has the wide open spaces for long distance shooting, and he enjoys shooting it. If I had kept the 770, I would have had a set of iron sights put on it...

                    How much is it?

Lowest price 783 in 243 is $274 with scope. 223 is $288 with scope.

                      $199 with scope, I believe.

                        I would recommend a 783 over a 770.
770's have a history of problems that were fixed with the introduction of the 783.
I don't know why they even sell the 770 anymore.
