Need a nudge - buying advice

I have the opportunity to purchase a Mossberg Patriot .270 with scope on clearance. It's a killer price. I handled it today in person. It seems like a nice hunting rifle. Any negatives?

Clearance, killer priced guns tend to vanish. Now that's a negative.

Don't buy it. In my experience if you can handle a firearm and not have to have it, it's probably not right for you.

If you buy it and want to sell the .270 once fired brass let me know.

i remember reading a couple of reviews of that particular rifle a few years back and they were very favorable. If i recall correctly they were pretty reasonably priced in the $300- $400 range.

Unless its like $200 Id pass. If you need a cheap hunting rifle get a Ruger or a used Tikka. The Mossberg I had was......not great.

It ain't a deal if you don't need it. It would be wasted $$$ if it couldn't group.

I know nothing of the rifle you're eyeing. I do know that there's usually a reason merchants blow out products. If they could turn a profit on a gun, it wouldn't go on a clearance rack.

Trust me. I've learned the expensive way.

The Mossberg bolt has a weird design with cast odd shape sticking out the left side.

I almost bought one but overall feel wasn't impressive. I can be a sucker for a good deal but to me it felt too cheap.

This. If by chance you play guitar, then think of it like a guitar. You will know when you hold the one(s) that is right for you. It'll just fit your hands like it was made for you, and it'll feel like an extension of you. So if you handled it today and your impressions were just that it "seems like a nice rifle" then perhaps this isn't the one.

Of course that's not taking into account the more practical limitations like budget, role, etc.

This is where I am at this point. This is probably the last rifle I will buy, so I've decided to wait and save a few more pennies to purchase "that gun" I've always wanted.

The killer price is $325 with scope. Brand new off the shelf. It's at Dick's. They are selling all inventory and not restocking. This store is getting out of the gun business according to the counter guy.

When faced with similar situations, I remember something my wife told me; "Down the road, will you regret NOT buying it?"
