Have you considered a leather lace-on sleeve?

Look on GunPartsCorp/Numrich for the older, plastic butt plates. They should screw right on and won't snag clothing during the mount.

Have a Pachmayr Sporting Clays Decelerator buttpad installed. They have a hard rubber insert at the heel so that they don't snag as you're mounting the rifle. Also, it helps if you have the correct LOP. If it's too long, you're more likely to snag your clothing.

Leather butt covers look OK and solve the problem. You can retain the cushion.
