No loss of barrel length, and if done right you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you.
Or even make a barrel longer the same way, but you can usually tell when that has been done.

Yep, DIY is not always a good thing.

Wife broke the small pulley on her Hoover vacuum that drives the beater brush.

Called Hoover, they wanted $13.00 for the pulley.

I have a Lathe, figured I could easily turn one out.

When I went to part it off the bar stock I used, broke a $35.00 parting tool. Ouch.

Gets worse, then I set up to drill and tap it. That's when I discovered it was a left hand thread 10-32 shaft.
So off to McMaster Carr for a Left hand tap, $18.00 later and a 14 mile round trip to pick it up, I was installing it on the Hoover.

After spending $53.00 to replace a $13.00 part, the wife decided she wanted a new vacuum...... Grrrrrrrr

Bottom line, take it to Randall........

My wife ran the beater brush over some live primers I had spilled. Two went off and burned two round spots in the carpet. I had to buy a new carpet.
Before I got home she took the vacuum in for repair and said it made a loud noise and burned the carpet.
The repair guy said it sounded serious and would cost a bunch of money to fix until I called him and set things straight.
I still have the vacuum but the wife is another story.
