Are you hoping someone will talk you out of it?

I appreciate good looking bolt rifles that shoot well, but I'd rather admire other people's stuff. For me the holy grail is a rifle that shoots well enough for whatever I'm going to shoot with it and costs less than $1k with a suitable scope. I live in the middle of woods and I don't want to end up like the friend of a friend who lives in Santa Rosa and filed a six figure claim for guns, reloading equipment and supplies that were lost in the 2017 fires.

But if you do end up getting that Sauer, you can invite me over to pay it proper homage any time

I doubt that I'd buy it, but it's tempting. If I do, I'll invite you to put rounds down range.

My two most important rifle criteria are accuracy and reliability. I have a 45 year old Model 700 that fits perfectly in to both categories. However, I have managed to pick up a couple Sakos along the way.

Germans are renowned for engineering and manufacture of precision instruments. But I doubt that the best Germany has to offer can whip Finland's Sako.

Americans are the best craftsmen in the world. But too many external factors prevent them from creating the best rifles in the world -affordable that is ;-)

We're kindred spirits in that respect. For me anyway, rifles are tools and I want tools that work the way they're supposed to. No Sakos but I do have a couple of Tikka T3s.

Well, you could sell off a number of them, and acquire a Steyr Scout with proper optic and be good to go. It is likely the best all-around general purpose "tool" in the .308 class, is very friendly to carry and use, and reliable as well.

Go for it. Sauer rifles are very high quality and beautiful pieces of hardware.
