I'm having a problem with a recently purchased Winchester 1895 "tang safety" rifle. This is the type with a rebounding hammer and FP block.
Doing a bit of fiddling around and cleaning I removed the mainspring unit. Seemed simple enough, but when reassembled the trigger felt different and the firing pin block doesn't move when the hammer falls. Also, a spring loaded metal tab is now vertical next to the rear of the firing pin where the hammer would strike. I don't recall seeing it before.
Has anyone done a complete disassembly, or knows how the FP block functions, or what problem can be caused by simply removing and cleaning the mainspring assembly? Any advice appreciated. Including reassembling the magazine, which despite having only 3 parts is proving its own problem.
