Christensen Arms Mesa .308

I've been wanting to add another bolt action to my collection so I went and ordered a Christensen Arms Mesa in .308 today. I'm pretty excited to get it so I'm looking for a scope and rings for it in the meantime to help forget about it. I think I have it narrowed down to the Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x. I'm a big Vortex fan and have some of their Razor Gen II scopes, but don't want to spend that much, trying to keep it in the $600-800 range. Anyways the main thing I'm unsure of is what height I should get for the rings. I like the 'Vortex Precision Matched Riflescope Rings' but they offer them in low, medium, and high height. I'm just hoping someone can help me out and tell me what will be best for my rifle and scope. Thank you!

Stock looks pretty flat at the comb. I'd guess low or medium. That is a WAG though. (WAG = Wild *** Guess)

Might give Christensen a call and see what they recommend.

What height rings are u running on your GenII’s ? Are u more worried about objective clearance from the barrel, or trying to accommodate a low non-adjustable comb?

Low gets my vote. In fact, the low Seekins rings are even lower (.82) than the Vortex rings. Have tried both.

Clearance. I just don’t want it to touch the barrel.

I have them in the Geissele mounts on ARs and SCARs.

In that case, low (.82) will clear 50mm objectives with a 20moa rail and varmint contour barrels.

Are u planing on running a flip cap?

I have a spare set of Seekins Mediums .87’s if you’d like to fit them prior to making your purchase.

Thank you for your offer, but after talking to Vortex and Optics Planet they said I should go with the medium (.97) if I plan on using a flip, which I am.

I just placed the order for the ring, NF 2 piece 20 MOA scope base and the Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x. I also got the Javelin carbon fiber bipod. I'm looking forward to putting it all together and taking it out to the range.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what ammo I should shoot through it for the best results?

Meh, I had two .308's that didn't like that stuff at all. Shot great with military M118.
