Experience with 6.5 PRC

Has anyone had any experience with the 6.5 PRC?

I purchased a Montana Rifle Co. X3 300 Rum earlier this year and love it.

I just ordered an X3 in 6.5 PRC. So far what I have read it looks interesting.

Would love to hear your experiences.

Seems no one wants to answer you. If you check out the Rokslide Forums you will find many who own and use it on game.

I've build 4 of them for customers so far. It seems to be the new "Do All" cartridge because quality factory Hornady ammo is available. I've test fired 2 of the rifles I've built and they shot under 1/2" with the horned ELD-M. Two customers are heading to Colorado next week to try them out on elk. One of them said he shot three rounds that he could cover with a dime at 300Y. So, we know it's an accurate cartridge with factory match ammo and a custom built rifle. I imagine if I could only have one caliber for hunting or target, it would be a good choice in today's market.

I currently have a Bartlein barrel on order with a gain twist, 8.25 to 7.25 twist.

I am debating between just buying a Montana Rifle Co complete rifle or rebareling a Mod 70 Magnum.

You mentioned doing a few of these, do you know what the neck diameter your reamer cuts? I know, the anal benchrest shooter is raising its ugly head.

Also, would you be willing to barrel my Mod 70 push feed. Pretty sure the action is a mid 70's generation. I got it in the later 70's. Currently it is in 300 WM configuration in need of new barrel.

The cartridge looks interesting. I have not been able to get my hands on a piece of brass to play with to see how it would feed through my push feed Mod 70.

Can't comment much, don't own one yet. I have a long awaited order from PVA, a barreled action with nutless barloc.

Was able to get 50 pieces of Hornady brass and a case of the 147 ELD-M factory cartridges.

Some folks are using long action so they can use heavier/longer bullets. Might wanna go 1/7.5 twist if u plan on using heavier than 147gr pills.

I found some Hornady brass at Outfitters Warehouse, so I will have some in my hands shortly.

The action I am building on is push feed Mod 70. It was originally a 300 WM. I loaded some dummies the other day to cycle them thru the mag. With the top of the boat tail seated at the shoulder/neck junction, still had tons of room in the mag.

Looking forward to getting this one built.
