    Hunting bullets for lever guns

I am looking to replace my guns, I used to have a Marlin 336 in 30-30ack. Have always wanted a 1895 in 44mag. Then it occurs to me, are there any all copper bullets out there to use in a lever action? I know Barnes makes a 44, but would it be safe in a tubular magazine? I am wondering if a lever action is useful as a hunting rifle come 2019.

Barnes makes a 200 and 225 grain XPB hollow point that would work great in 44 Mag.

But as the rounds sit in the magazine tube at an angle, is one round safe from the hard bullet behind it not setting off the primer under recoil? I loaded my 30-30AI with round nose bullets, but they still had soft lead tips.

They don't make it 1895 in 44 mag

Think BABUSA is correct. 1894 is what you're looking for. And other than .44 mag, Barnes makes .30 cal non-lead bullets for the 30-30.

Take a look at the Barnes XPB. They have an enormous hollow point cavity, no need to worry about a chain reaction. They make a pointy hp version in other calibers that might be more of a concern, but the 0.429 isnt one of them.

                Good to know, thanks.

Cutting Edge makes stuff that will work too.

You bet lever guns will continue to be viable hunting options. Both Browning and now Henry make box magazine fed lever guns. The Brownings come in many hunting calibers and are a joy to shoot. The Henry options look great, though I have not shot the Henry yet.

Barnes makes a 30-30 copper bullet suitable for tubular magazines. Quite accurate too. Has a hollow point, good for hunting.

                        Hunting bullets for lever guns

All of my lever guns are pistol-caliber lever carbines, with the possible exception of this Marlin 1894 FG (.41 mag) in short rifle configuration. It's still a 20" barrel, though, so the only real differences are in the forend furniture/barrel band setup...

I have both Winchester "Razor Back XT" 225 gr copper hollerpoints and a Barnes "VOR-TX" 225 gr bullet cartridge in .44 Mag for my Browning '92.

There's a similar Barnes load in .41 Mag with their 180 grain copper hollowpoint as well.

Then there's another Barnes VOR-TX load for .357 Mag with a 140 grain copper hollowpoint...

I have boxes of all three loads at the ready for my .357 and .41 Marlin 1894s and for my .357 Rossis (soon to be two; just found a de luxe R92 in 20" with nicer wood and a saddle ring) and my 1894CS357.

I am wondering if a lever action is useful as a hunting rifle come 2019.

It should be, and most definitely when chambered in .44 Mag. I only wish bullet weights were heavier with the copper solids but then there'd be no room within the cartridge for any appreciable amount of powder.
