He's done a bunch of other videos on this project in the interim. This one is on bedding bottom "metal", which is of interest for a couple different reasons. For one thing, it's a problem that occurs a lot with replacement stocks. For another, it points out the advantage of using a stock made of material that can be "worked", like wood. A foam filled fiberglass-skinned one would be much harder.

Or get a quality stock in the first place.

Those B wood stocks are very rough to say the least.

Sometimes being cheap, is an expensive proposition.

Savage makes a 6.5 rifle with acustock, accutrigger, Dbm, 24or26" threaded barrel, 20moa rail included and turners had them on sale for $550.

Good start, going with his scope and Burris adjustable rings/used canted 1piece mount would keep you under $1000 with no "working" of the stock.

The project stock has adjustable cheekpiece and length of pull, and uses AICS magazines. Being wood, you can easily screw on stuff like a bottom ARCA rail or a bag rider if you want.

What was his hit percentage with this setup?

ugg. $319.97. Just had an Athlon Argos 6-24x BTR MOA scope delivered to me last week and was about to mount it to my RAP. While I was not really planning on buying another 6.5 this might be too good to pass up.

So $1k budget is just rifle and scope?

Remington 700 Long Range in 300wm. Already comes with B&C stock.
                      $690 shipped.

Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x for $290 shipped.

That $320 Savage is good if you get it in something like that new $400 Oryx chassis.

I'm sure that guy is shooting over sea level, so drop is likely under 70 MOA or 20 mils.

I know what you guys mean...I want a new rifle now, too. Lol!

at 1760 my rap is about 27 mils. With a 20moa rail and 35 moa rings I am pushing the limits of my argos and can only go to 18x because i need the drop reticle while staying out of the outer edge blur.

decided not to buy the savage. my rap gets it done. next gun will be much bigger.

This Remington 783 in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 24" threaded heavy barrel for $364 would be a good deal, too.
In that $400 Oryx chassis, of course.

Yes gear can not replace training. But you put a noob on both a $700 pieced together rifle and a $2000 semi custom and even their shooting will improve. Shooting long range is about being consistent. Better quality parts, and skilled labor putting those parts together, make a rifle much more consistent.

You hear the adage all the time, "the gun shoots better then me" or "if I do my parts its a X MOA rifle". Guys say that because out of every ten groups or so, they'll get one that is 1/2 MOA of better. But in reality when you look at the average of all those ten groups the gun really shoots 1 MOA or worse. Well if they had a gun that was 1/4 MOA capable, then your average group would be 1/2 MOA or better. Plus with a rifle you know is consistent, you know if you're the problem, or if its the equipment. 1 MOA or worse rifles, don't tell you that. Guys spend all day wondering what they did wrong, when in reality, they may have done nothing wrong.
