I have one of those Spanish small ring Mausers with a new .308 barrel... was saving it to install a chamber insert and shoot 7.62x39 out of it, but I'd rather have a CZ of course.

The CZ Single Set trigger is amazing. I do wonder what ammo I'd end up shooting though. My stash is good for my SKS, but I would not count on it being accurate in a new CZ. Anyone shoot the steel case fodder though one, or is that just blasphemy?

The CZ is designed for steel cased ammo. In fact, it could choke on brass.

You x39 guys are just out-ranged man. Shooting ain’t THAT much fun. Ultimately you shoot to train in death dealing. That is what rifles do best and the further out you can deal, the brighter your future shall be.

This is the exact opposite of the reality of infantry combat over the past 100 years.

If I had to fight house to house in Moscow, an AK might not be a bad choice.

I have a Zastava M85. I bought it because I had 10 guns that shoot 7.62 COMBLOCK and thousands of rounds in that caliber. In one of the strangest coincidences I had it shipped to my home based FFL. He'd never seen a bolt action in that round but also had a CZ 527 come in the same day so I got to look at that one too.

Long story short: buy the CZ 527!

.22lr subsonic out of a bolt gun. A nice CZ or Savage will get you out to 200 easily and it will feel like you are shooting out to 600-800 depending on wind. At 5c a round you cannot get much cheaper.
I get bored with punching paper but I do have gongs in 2, 3 and 4" sizes. At my skill level, hitting them at 100 yards with a bolt .22lr from a tripod sitting on the ground, sitting on a stool or standing and doing it consistently is a challenge and a good, inexpensive skill building exercise, especially if there's a breeze.

And as audiophil2 points out, it's also cheap. Really cheap.

I have seven .308's - I only have the one SKS. I would still like a 7.62x39 bolt gun even though it is ranged out. Doesn't mean I will drop $1200 on a CZ setup, but I still want one. That set trigger

                        The Howa mini-action is $400-ish.

Don't know where you get your numbers, I got my CZ 527 for $600.

Well I can get one all setup for around $900 with a scope but if I bought one here with Diamondback scope and nice mount/rings. I was quoted $675 for a new one... so adding glass it would be whatever you want to pay to be able to shoot it. I was thinking mount, rings, decent scope. But I actually have a SWFA I could put on it.

$1144 would be my cost with tax and dros if I used a $260 Black Friday scope THAT's where I got the pricing
(Added $100 for mount rings which is pretty reasonable I think)

No need for a scope with this rifle.

OK. Didn't even consider that... to be honest the one I checked out already had a scope on it and I did not notice any irons. I was overwhelmed by the trigger.
