    Winchester trigger question (1981)

I have a very accurate 1981 Winchester Super Express 375 HH. I think I could improve it more if the trigger was a bit lighter....it's currently a 6 lbs pull original equipment.

Are these 1981 triggers better to have a smith play with, or are there truly advanced after market triggers for this fine older gun.(push feed)

Model 70 triggers are easy to adjust.

Adjusting the Model 70 Triggerby Frank Kleinburg ([emailprotected]) (Original article posted at www.recguns.com) Let me discuss how the trigger on the Model 70 works. Knowing how itworks will allow you to know how a gunsmith would adjust it. The trigger mechanism on the Winchester Model 70 is...

If you don't want to mess with the engagement or overtravel, all you need to do is reduce the tension on the spring by loosening the lock nut that holds the nut in place against the spring.
Then back the tension off the spring about 1 turn, lock the nut back in place and see where you are at.

I think I might substitute "simple" for easy. Meaning it's not difficult to understand how it works, but takes a bit of practice to execute. When the bolt action FN SPR rifles (basically a HB Model 70) first came out they used standard Winchester 70 triggers. Then at some point switched to "new and improved" self contained unit triggers. I kept my old trigger, after installing different springs and polishing the sear & sear notch. It's a great, straightforward set up.
