Rem 783 .308 vs Ruger Gunsite scout .308

    Greetings to all
If you had to choose as your go to rifle for medium game at 500 to 600 yards with minor range stalking. I have both and only have time to get proficient with one right now.

Both rifles are in stock form for now.

What would you choose and why?

What mods if any would you choose and why?

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Hands down the scout rifle. But like Cooper said...if you can closer, get closer. hunting isn't a game of sniping. personally, I am more impressed by the hunter who stalked closer, than one that brags about the unnecessarily long shot. Richard Mann has some good thoughts on this too that I agree with.

First response is how cruel I am to shoot a animal. No where said I was going out to take this shot at 500 to 600 yards at a animal. The question was about the rifles in comparison not about the person abilitys

OP---You do need to word your questions better. I, also, took it as you thought you could be taking a 400-500 yard shot. That MAY not be what you MEANT but it could be taken as such.

I would take the Ruger. "I" would get rid of the Rem 783 and buy a better rifle.
But then that is just me and I am not being "cruel" to you.

I would not like either of those for 500-600yd medium game.
Both are 308's with skinny barrels.
Both are fine for carrying in the field until you can get inside 200yds though.

What you want for 500-600 yards is a 783 in 7mm Rem Mag.

                    Thank you for the info
And for the record I will not be going out and try to hunt any animals for another year or so. I am fully aware that it would be irresponsible to try and take a animal without knowing I had the capability to take a clean kill.

Ruger over Remington but that Ruger would not be great for hunting. It's a tacticool tool.

FWIW, I have had a good bit of success using a few RGSR's as hunting tools for a variety of game. They are "Scout" configured with optics, slings, etc., and carry well in the field. Remove that silly muzzle break and go with the thread protector; it shortens the OAL, and makes it easier to get in and out of vehicles with.

Jimmy, your welcome to your opinion but it is misinformed.

scout rifles are excellent hunting rifles, including for African safaris.

Wasn't the Ruger designed for hunting?
                            Not much tactical about it.

Meh, kinda. The Scout concept is about shooting people as much as shooting animals.
