    WINCHESTER 88 .243 VALUE?

    Hello calguns,
I have a buddy who has one. And as I have no idea about lever guns nor .243 I am stumped on value.
I played with it a bit, seems to work well. Has some minor surface rust, but overall not bad looking piece. Serial 1077xx if that helps.
Just curious what the brain trust of CGN thinks.
    Thanks

It's going to make a little bit of difference whether it is pre or post 1964.

Condition is also important. There was a recall on the firing pins way back when - was this one ever serviced under that recall?

Does it have a period scope? How's the trigger? 88 triggers are very often terrible.

The .308 was the most common so you get a bump in that regard.

I would price it around $600 in VG condition, and post it on as many boards as you can. Learn how to ship a gun. That is if you want to sell it anytime soon.

I have seen 88s priced way up around $1K in the last few years, although those are gathering dust.

The problem with the 88 is that it will only attract the interest of collectors who a) know what a Winchester 88 is and b) want to add one to their collection.

I have one in .308. I paid $400 for it a few years back, but that was a friend deal.

Hard to say without knowing how much surface rust there is and how deep it goes. I agree with $600 if in very good condition...again, the rust issue. How is the bore if there is surface rust?

Good luck. I always thought they were cool looking guns.
