Timney Trigger Replacement - Do It!

I just wanted to give a nudge to anyone considering replacing their Remington 700 factory trigger with a Timney. Since I bought that 5R I haven't been happy with the trigger. I checked and it wasn't subject to the recall, but even so I neither liked it nor (to be honest) trusted it.

So, I picked up a Timney in stainless to match the rifle and finally got around to installing it. I was worried about the install, but honestly if you can follow the directions to bake brownies you can change out the trigger. I just watched a few YouTube videos and followed Timney's written directions and everything went really well. I didn't even end up adjusting the trigger pull - I just went with whatever they set and I like it a whole lot.

Agreed, that trigger is definitely worth the ~$120.

Replaced mine when the recall was announced instead of sending it in.
Had to file the trigger guard slightly to clear the safety, otherwise it's a drop in part.

That's the first part you change on a Remington 700.
      Do the bolt knob next.
      Get the bolt tuned.

      Then the DBM.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

One more vote for Timney. They're easy to install and adjust. Put one on my Remington 700 and it is considerably more accurate.

Until you have shot one with an aftermarket trigger you will not believe the difference. I too replaced mine with Timney.

For a few bucks more, a TriggerTech is definitely worth considering.

I guess I got lucky with my Remington 700, it's an older one, late 60s. And it is fully adjustable, trigger pull weight, overtravel, and creep. But you can't be a fool and think you can do it in any particular order. It must be done in the proper order. And it is very drop safe.

While I find the triggers on most production bolt guns serviceable to get a light pull, crisp break, and no creep & overtravel; the rem 700 is not one of them. Installing a Timney or better, a triggertech trigger, should be the first upgrade.

I prefer jewell triggers over timney for a rem 700.

510s are routinely on sale for $100 or so.
