    Lantac 308 for 300WinMag

I'm reposting this in the centerpiece discussions. I want to clarify that I know the difference between a 308 and 300 Win Mag. They shoot the same diameter bullets, the 300 is just much more capable.

I'm considering buying a rifle chambered in 300 Winmag. I'm curious if there is any safety concern in buying a muzzle brake labeled for a 308, and applying it on the muzzle of a 300 winmag.

Is there any issue with gases/pressure produced from a 300 winmag with what is titled "308 muzzle brake"? I've heard almost nothing but good things about the Lantac 308, granted it's marketed for a AR10.

Has anyone on here tried out the Lantac 308 with a 300 winmag? Any information is much appreciated.

    Thank you,

300 win mag has more powder. The daimeter is. The same.Therefore. Any 30 cal muzzle brake will work.You. Can load the same bullets for both. .308 And. 300 winmag if you. Want. But most load a bigger bullet for 300 than 308.I use 168 and 178 for.308 and 220 grain for 300 win. Mag.

I won't add much other than, brakes marketed towards a .308 are different than those marketed towards a .300wm in terms of design.

There's a much larger blast coming from a .300wm as well as felt recoil, so naturally a .300wm brake is designed to drastically reduce that felt recoil.

.308 doesn't offer much felt recoil at all which leads to styles that help mitigate and/or redirect flash, reduce felt recoil, or a combination of both.

One question is, do you even know what kind of rifle you plan to buy? The threads on your soon-to-be rifle may not even work with the Lantac brake you have in mind. Kind of like considering the type of oil/filter I'll be using without having bought the car yet.

Case capacity is obvious - google will tell you that with a picture

Whether you choose a .308 (bolt or gas) or a 300 WM, reloading will allow you to fine tune the ammo to the chosen platform so that makes it "more capable."

If you don't reload (you may want to do that), stick with a .308 and buy 175 gr. or 185 gr. FGMM.

Most 300 Wins have the same thread. I'm thinking about ordering Howa's threaded heavy barrel @ 26"
