RPR is a good choice for 800-1000m. Looks like there's quite a few aftermarket barrels. Aftermarket is growing for the RPR.

RPR 6.5 creedmore will easily handle the 800-1k yards you were looking for. I recently picked one up with a Vortex 6-24x50 scope and love it. You'll find lots of Remington 700 fans on Calguns though, and occasional Savage fan. Regardless if you go with Ruger, Remington, , Savage, Tikka as entry to 1k, they'll all handle it easily.

My brother shoots a RPR in 6.5 and loves it. We shoot to 1k a couple times a year. Find the right load for it and have fun.

Just curious as to what your father n law ended up with? My vote was for the RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor using a Sightron 8-32X MOA-2 recital 30mm tube. Not sure how old your father n law is but if he's around my eyes age the extra power (if needed its there) comes in handy. And Optics Planet has them on sale and with all of the right coupon's you can purchase one for around $735. Good Luck, Larry

And if he doesn't reload have him look into the ammo made by Prime. Their out of Vegas and it only comes in 130gr weight, but pretty much all of its components are made by Norma. Even though the head stamp is Prime, its Norma brass and bullet. I'm not sure about the powder and primers, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't also. Not a bad price either for match ammo quality.

A 147 ELD at 2900 fps is . . .. . . well below subsonic at 2000 yards and is a rainbow of 60 FEET of total elevation in it. 7 feet MOA. No problemo though.

You are shooting over a mile and no problem.

He went with a vortex viper hs-t 6x24. I had him order some brass and projectiles. Picked up 5lb of RL 15 and gonna try out some h4350 as well. I reload ammo so he will be over helping me with the process.

I reload all of my own ammo so he will be using my equipment. He did get a 200dd box of Hornady 140gr hpbt for $140 or so to get started. We are gonna experiment with 130gr and 140gr eld projectiles, Hornady brass, cci Br-2 primers and RL15 and h4350 powders.

Now that he has a nice setup I’m thinking of building one. Been looking into 224 Valkyrie uppers or finding a bolt action in 7mm Rem mag since I don’t want to put a lot of rounds through my weatherby hunting rifle. I have all the gear to load for it and prefer that round even though it’s not all that cheap to load for.
